L is for Luggage

Recently I had to travel interstate with a colleague.. on the same day as the scheduled airline strikes. We spoke about it the day before and it was decided that we would only take hand luggage for the overnight trip. So the next morning off I go and head straight to the gate. My colleague is there with no luggage, instead I was met with "yeah I didn't have an appropriate bag."

Now the purpose of this post was not to complain about my colleague, or the hour it took to collect his luggage at the other end. My purpose is to talk about 1. how much I love luggage, and 2. make the point that good, correct size luggage is important.

Of course it would be nice if we could all rock up to our private planes, yachts or luxury trains with a trolley full of mongrammed LV but in reality practicality and budget will always prevail.

"A woman never goes anywhere but the hospital without packing makeup, clothes, and jewelery."
Grace Kelly

So, my hot tips for luggage
1. His and Hers carry on (ensure that it has areas accessable from the outside so you arent trying to rummage through it while its in the overhead locker)
2. A soft pack to slip the essentials in for the flight that will fit under your chair without being destroyed (for long haul flights think toothpaste, face cream, socks, book)
3. 2 medium sized cases (soft or hard case depending on your preference
4. 1 large case (ideal for family travels)

Nina Garcia, an authority on style, recommends packing the following in your carry on, just in case your checked luggage goes missing or is delayed;
black cashmere turtleneck
underwear
a toothbrush
a bathing suit
cosmetics bag
all jewelery

Bon voyage lovers!

A dream house

I will be the first to admit that dolls are not my thing. I even struggle with teddy bears. Its become difficult now that I am a parent - no one wants to deprive their child, but the idea of excessive amounts of ugly toys frustrates me.

If, however, one of these babies was available I would be buying it straight away. It may or may not make it into my daughters room to play with. I think it may have to be an adult toy. Oh bless those talented Eames. Ray and Charles you are still my heroes. My husband may have ownership of your chair, but the dolls house would be mine.

So anywho - back in 1959 the talented duo designed the dolls house for Revell, but it was never produced. The modular design is just to die for. The simplicity in the design gives so much. If it came with scale models of all the furniture I would be even more in heaven. And I'm not fussy - happy to take it in life size as well!

In other news, there has been quite the buzz in the blog world about dolls houses (child and adult versions alike). To check out more from those creative folk head here.

There will be stories

I'm going to just come right out and say it: I love the new Sydney Casino advertising campaign. Previously known as Star City, "The Star" has now been launched as a new hot (updated) version of the older somewhat lack luster establishment. Its being sold as a great precint for food, shopping and shows (as well as gambling of course). Anyway - so no comment here about my opinion on gambling, but I just love the campaign. Sure it features Molly Meldrum who has perhaps seen better days and may not appeal to most (some may not even know who he is) but to be honest the flowing champagne, bubbles and excitement have made me want to go have a look.

What do you think?

You can check out all the hype at star.com.au
We will have to wait and see if it lives up to the new name.

Sunday's touch of bling #3

You may have noticed that I have a little thing for the gold bling!!
This beautiful shot from Heather at Habitually Chic (who I blog stalk often) has blown me away. Heather's post was on the gold touches throughout Delfina Delettrez's home. Hailing from Fendi fashion house lineage, Delfina clearly has an eye for style. To see more of her beautiful apartment head over to Habitually Chic.

Back to this picture - not only do I love the floor boards, I love the shape of the gold frame mirrors, I even like the gold skull sitting on the table. But what I really really love is what she is wearing. I think it might be a gold leather skirt, and that shirt is to die for. Maybe a new girl crush... Certainly a new outfit crush!

Looking at the Moon

I'm not sure why but I seem to get a lot of random emails. I'm not really someone who forwards them on, but these photos of the moon are amazing. Such a creative idea. I love them so much and wish I would think of these things.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Sunday's touch of bling #2

While this room is probably something I would never have in my own home, I do like the gold bling. I love the thick slab table top seamingly floating. The art work behind the table is amazing, and probably the thing I would love to have in my home.

Today lovers, that all I have to leave you with..

Weekend project inspiration #1

Ok so I know it's kind of cheating because I don't think you could buy it as a single item - but I am loving this idea from Martha Stewart as seen at PVE design. So simple and lovely. I'm going to hunt down some bottles. Maybe it could be a little project for the weekend. I think the thrift shops would be the place to start for the smaller bottles, but something new for the hurrican vase. Has anyone out there tried to replicate this? Let me know!

The She-bang-a-bang

OMG! I thought that I loved the George side table by Oly from Coco Republic that I posted about a few weeks ago, but my heart is now torn for another love. Its tough being a lover, and today I blame Coco Kelly.. what a beautiful table. How can one choose?? The designer obviously has a unique perspective. I love it. I'm not too sure how my two year old would go with it though.. That aside, I checked out other designs here from Matthew studios and loved this light. If only I owned a house that would do it justice.

Sunday's touch of bling #1

lonny via pink wallpaper
I love everything about this picture. The clean join between the ceiling and walls - an ornate cornice might have been too much I think, I love the simple wall decoration, and the black paint in the book case. I love how the size and colours of the painting are mirrored in the bookshelf - joining the two living areas. Mostly though I love todays little piece of bling - the gold table topped with glass. So beautiful. Thanks to Pink Wallpaper for sharing.

Blue Velvet lust

Kelly Green blog

It must have been the SITC couch that did it, but now everytime I see blue velvet furniture I go weak at the knees. So today a little touch of blue. (and a slight hint of green) I wonder if I could convince Mr Husband of a blue velvet Chesterfield... oh we dream lovers!
